By the Persian Gulf, Sharjah is the capital of the emirate of the same name – the only one in the UAE to have a coastline on 2 gulfs.
Although not as internationally famous as its neighbor Dubai, Sharjah still has an exciting mix of old and new. The skyline is a backdrop of skyscrapers and many modern public buildings were designed by the ruling sheikh.
In sharp contrast is the Sharjah Heritage Area, the city’s oldest part. Here historic houses line pedestrian streets featuring some of the best museums, including the excellent Islamic Museum. On its northern edge is 19th-century Al Hisn Fort, an Arabic-style building once home to the ruling family.
Shopping in Sharjah is as big as in Dubai or Abu Dhabi. Its shopping centers include Ansar Mall and Mega Mall, while a more traditional experience can be found in Souk al-Arsah and the Blue Souk, so called because of its blue tiles and roof. Across the park is King Faisal Mosque, a gift from the Saudi king.

I've reserved a room at a supposed 4-star hotel, but it's been a terrible experience. The room reeks of mold, there are no towels, the floors are dirty, and the bed is discolored. It's impossible to sleep, especially with my 9-month-old baby. This is unacceptable, and this situation has been extremely disappointing for both me and my family. On February 29, 2024, I was informed by the hotel that the remaining portion of the payment for my stay would be refunded to my account. However, despite this assurance and the passing of approximately two months, I have yet to receive the refund. I must emphasize the urgency of this matter, as I checked out of the hotel on the same day I made the initial payment. Due to the unsatisfactory conditions of the hotel, it was imperative for me to vacate the premises immediately. The staff are professional and to the point. You get the exact answer to a question and this always makes them serve you faster. I was happy with the room and the service and the location, it is also very convenient for all your needs like supermarkets, food stores, mosque etc. The car park too is very user friendly and accessible directly to the hotel lift. The only issue was that on my second day I found that many cars had been parked without any sequence and quite a few cars were blocked by cars parked across. I think there are many who are not guest in the hotel who also park because there is no security person at the gate and it opens for any car that comes in front of it. The room was fine, the reception staff were friendly and helpful, eg with WiFi. The rooftop pool was also a good experience, with fine views over that part of Sharjah. The location is very handy, being close enough to the whole Majaz area, the Qasba Canal and central Sharjah (in March either on foot or by taxi).
